Heavy rainfall forecast for parts of Nepal this weekend
Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a Special Monsoon Weather Bulletin, with increased rainfall expected and the main period of concern being Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible in some areas, particularly parts of Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces, with heavy rainfall also possible in parts of other provinces.
This does not mean severe weather across all of Nepal. Rainfall and its impacts can vary significantly from one area to another. However, periods of intense rain can increase the risk of landslides, debris flows, swollen rivers and disruption to roads, trails and flights.
Advice for travellers
If you are travelling in Nepal this weekend:
- Monitor the weather regularly. Conditions can change quickly.
- Follow updates from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, NepalNOW, your tourism provider and local authorities.
- Listen to local advice. Your guide, tourism provider and local communities often have the clearest picture of conditions on a particular road or trail.
- If rainfall is particularly heavy, be prepared to postpone trekking, hiking or road travel for the day. Do not force an itinerary.
- Avoid swollen rivers and streams, flooded roads and trails, and areas where there are signs of landslides or unstable slopes.
- Allow extra time for journeys and connections. Road and flight delays are possible during periods of poor weather.

This is a weather advisory, not a recommendation to stop travelling in Nepal.
The sensible approach for 25–27 September is to remain informed, keep plans flexible and make decisions according to the actual conditions where you are travelling.
