Search, rescue and relief operations continue along the badly affected Bhote Koshi–Upper Trishuli river corridor, while work is underway to restore roads, electricity and communications.
A miracle today
Some wonderful news today: two workers were rescued alive from the Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project tunnel, nine days after the disaster. There are indications that others may still be alive inside the tunnel system, and rescue efforts continue. After nine days, this is nothing short of a miracle — and gives real hope to families still waiting.
Roads & Trails
Roads: Access along the affected Bhote Koshi–Upper Trishuli corridor remains severely disrupted and restoration work continues. Monsoon conditions are also causing temporary disruptions elsewhere, so travellers should check their specific route before travelling.
Trails: Many trekking regions outside the disaster area continue to operate. For now, travellers should choose alternatives to Langtang Valley, the Tamang Heritage Trail and Gosaikunda, where conditions remain uncertain and emergency resources are still required.
What travellers should know
This is a major disaster, but it is not affecting all of Nepal.
The impact is concentrated along one river corridor. Kathmandu, Pokhara, Everest/Khumbu, Annapurna and most other tourism areas are outside the affected corridor and continue to operate, subject to normal monsoon conditions.
If your itinerary is affected, talk to your Nepal-based operator before cancelling. There are many alternative routes and destinations.
Nepal is responding. The support coming from around Nepal and around the world has been immense, and we are deeply grateful. We mourn what we have lost. We are grateful that the world is standing with us. And we will rebuild and recover.
