Today Nepal observes a national day of mourning for those who lost their lives in the floods and landslides that began 13 days ago.
We mourn with the families and communities who have suffered unimaginable loss, while continuing to hope for news of those still missing.
We also recognise the extraordinary response: more than 20,000 security personnel, alongside local communities, volunteers, rescue specialists, medical teams and many others who have worked tirelessly through this disaster. Nepal is deeply grateful for the support, expertise and messages of solidarity coming from around the world.
For travellers, it remains important to understand the geography of what has happened.
This is a major disaster, but it is not a disaster across all of Nepal.
The most severe impact remains concentrated along the Bhote Koshi–Upper Trishuli river corridor through Rasuwa. Search, relief and recovery operations continue there.
There are also separate, temporary monsoon-related disruptions in some other parts of the country, including a new disruption affecting trekking in Manaslu and Tsum Valley.
LANGTANG, TAMANG HERITAGE TRAIL & RASUWA
🔴 AVOID TRAVEL FOR NOW
The Rasuwa corridor has suffered severe damage. Road access, bridges, communications and local infrastructure have been affected, while parts of the corridor continue to be used for rescue, relief and recovery operations.
We advise travellers to defer travel to Langtang Valley, the Tamang Heritage Trail and Gosaikunda through the affected corridor until clearer local assessments are available.
Travellers already booked into this region should speak directly with their Nepal-based operator about postponement or alternative trekking areas.
MANASLU & TSUM VALLEY
🔴 TEMPORARILY DEFER TREKKING
This is a separate and more recent disruption and should not be confused with the main Rasuwa disaster.
Following flooding and landslides on 6 September, current reports indicate damage to bridges around Namrung on the Manaslu Circuit and disruption towards Tsum Valley. The District Administration Office in Gorkha has advised a temporary halt to trekking in the affected area until further notice.
Travellers planning Manaslu or Tsum Valley should therefore defer departure for the moment and wait for updated information on bridges, trails and access.
This is a changing situation and does not constitute an advisory against trekking across Nepal.

KATHMANDU
🟢 OPERATING
Kathmandu remains operational. Hotels, restaurants, heritage sites and tourism services continue to function, and Tribhuvan International Airport remains operational.
As elsewhere during the monsoon, individual flights and road journeys can be affected by weather, so travellers should confirm arrangements before travelling.
POKHARA & ANNAPURNA
🟢 OPERATING — ALLOW FLEXIBILITY FOR ROAD TRAVEL
Pokhara and the main Annapurna tourism areas are outside the principal disaster corridor and continue to receive travellers.
There have been disruptions and diversions on parts of the Kathmandu–Pokhara road journey. Travellers should allow additional time or consider flying between Kathmandu and Pokhara.
Normal monsoon precautions continue to apply to trekking.
CHITWAN
🟢 OPERATING
The main tourism destination around Sauraha and Chitwan National Park continues to operate.
It is important not to confuse Chitwan District with the tourism destination. While parts of the wider river system pass through the district, the principal tourism activities around Sauraha and the national park are operating.
Travellers should still check their particular road route before departure.
LUMBINI
🟢 OPERATING
Lumbini is geographically separate from the principal affected corridor and continues to receive travellers.
The Buddhist pilgrimage sites, hotels and tourism services in the Lumbini area continue to operate. Travellers travelling overland should, as elsewhere during the monsoon, check current road conditions before departure.
EVEREST / KHUMBU
🟢 OPERATING
The Everest region is geographically separate from the affected Rasuwa corridor.
Trekking continues subject to normal monsoon weather conditions and flight operations into Lukla. Travellers should check their individual flight and trekking arrangements with their operator.
HELP FOR FAMILIES OF FLOOD VICTIMS
Dedicated help desks are now operating in Kathmandu to assist families of those affected by the floods, including families arriving from overseas.
Tribhuvan International Airport
Help desks are operating at both the international and domestic terminals, staffed by Nepal Police and Tourist Police.
Nepal Tourism Board, Bhrikutimandap
A dedicated help desk staffed by Nepal Tourism Board and Tourist Police is assisting affected tourists, tourism workers and their families with information, liaison and coordination.

This coordinated support is particularly important for families arriving in Nepal or trying to establish contact with relevant authorities, tourism companies and other agencies.
FOR TRAVELLERS COMING TO NEPAL
Nepal is dealing with a serious tragedy. We should neither minimise what has happened nor allow the impression that the entire country has been devastated.
The situation varies considerably by destination.
🔴 Rasuwa / Langtang corridor: avoid travel for now.
🔴 Manaslu & Tsum Valley: temporarily defer trekking and await further updates.
🟢 Kathmandu, Pokhara, Annapurna, Chitwan, Lumbini and Everest: tourism continues, with normal monsoon caution and some road flexibility required.
The best advice is simple:
Check your actual itinerary before changing your plans.
Speak to your Nepal-based operator, who can check current conditions locally and adjust routes where necessary.
Nepal is responding. The world is standing with us. And while today we mourn, the work of recovery has already begun.
